Kathmandu, May 14, 2025 — A delegation representing the People’s Forum officially handed over the People’s Forum Declaration on Sagarmatha Sambad to key government officials, calling for the meaningful inclusion of grassroots voices in Nepal’s premier global dialogue on climate change.
The declaration was presented to:
Hon’ble Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, Minister, Ministry of Forests and Environment
Mr. Amrit Bahadur Rai, Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Dr. Maheswor Dhakal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Forests and Environment & Coordinator of Sagarmatha Sambad

The declaration captures the collective concerns, aspirations, and recommendations of mountain and lowland communities who are on the frontlines of the climate crisis. It emphasizes the urgent need for policies that are rooted in people’s lived experiences and calls for stronger participation of civil society voices in the Sagarmatha Sambad process.

The People’s Forum on Sagarmatha Sambad was held on May 4, 2025, in Kathmandu as a powerful civil society initiative to amplify community voices ahead of the official Sambad. The event brought together a diverse range of stakeholders—including indigenous groups, youth, climate activists, researchers, and local leaders—to share perspectives and co-create solutions for a sustainable future.
The Sagarmatha Sambad, organized by the Government of Nepal, will take place in Kathmandu from May 16 to 18, 2025. This high-level global dialogue aims to address pressing climate and environmental challenges through inclusive and collaborative approaches.
