Kathmandu, July 9, 2025 — A national-level workshop on the Child-Centered Universal Periodic Review (UPR) – Fourth Cycle – was successfully organized by the Children as Zones of Peace(CZOP) National campaign in Kathmandu
As in previous cycles, CZOP has prepared a comprehensive child-centric report for the global UPR process.The event was chaired by CZOP President Ms. Meena Sharma and Chief Guest of the program was Hon. Tap Bahadur Magar, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission. Other notable dignitaries included Hon. Sabitra Kumari Sharma, Member of the National Women Commission; Mr. Chakra Bahadur Budha, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens; Ms. Indra Devi Dhakal, Member Secretary of the National Child Rights Council; Ms. Bimala Paudel from the Human Rights and International Treaty Division of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers; Mr. Arjun Bhattarai, Chairperson of the NGO Federation of Nepal; and child advisors from CZOP’s Child Advisory Committee, Ms. Jenisa Soti and Mr. Abdul Miya. Mr. Dil Bahadur Air from Save the Children, a key development partner, also addressed the event.
The workshop witnessed the participation of representatives from child-focused networks, former presidents of CZOP, development partners, member organizations from all seven provinces, and various civil society actors.
Leading to the national workshop, CZOP, in collaboration with local civil society organizations, had conducted interactive consultation meetings with children across all seven provinces. The report compiled from these interactions highlights the current status, challenges, and perspectives of children from diverse regions and backgrounds in Nepal.
Speakers emphasized that this report will play a vital role in informing the international community about child-related issues in Nepal and in urging the government to increase investment in the well-being and development of children.
Mr. Kapil Aryal, the consultant on behalf of CZOP, shared that the final version of the report will incorporate all the feedback and suggestions received during the workshop and adjusted in the final report.
