One-Day Digital Safety Training Conducted in Madhyabindu Municipality under 16 Days of Activism

Madhyabindu, Nawalparasi East — 9 December 2025 — On the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a one-day digital safety training was successfully conducted at Janata Adarsha Secondary School, Mangalchaur, located in Madhyabindu Municipality–10, Arunkhola.

The training was organized under the international slogan “Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls” and the national slogan “Use Technology Responsibly, End Gender-Based Violence.” The session aimed to enhance awareness among adolescents on online safety, digital risks, and the prevention of digital violence.
The program was jointly organized by Jagrati Child and Youth Concern Nepal, KANALLAN, PPDC Nepal, Asia Centre, Consortium Nepal, Children as Zones of Peace (CZOP) National Campaign, and the National Child-Friendly Local Governance Forum (N-CFLG Forum), in coordination with the school.
The program was chaired by Ms. Kashmi Kumal, a teenage representative. Ms. Radha Devi Bote, Senior Program Officer of JCYCN, shared that the organization has been implementing adolescent empowerment activities in collaboration with Madhyabindu Municipality through 30 peer educators (Saathi Teachers). Highlighting the increasing incidents of digital violence and online abuse against girls and women, she emphasized that raising awareness and building digital resilience was the core objective of the training.

The facilitation session was led by Ms. Shirishka Adhikari, a Saathi Teacher under the Adolescent Empowerment Program. She provided detailed inputs on online safety, types of digital threats, internet fraud and scams, and practical measures to stay safe online. She stressed that many people in society are becoming victims of digital risks due to a lack of awareness, making digital literacy and responsible technology use essential.
Sharing reflections, participant Sameer Bista stated that the training provided valuable knowledge on potential online risks and ways to protect oneself. Similarly, participant Anushka Adhikari shared that she learned to be more cautious while creating online identities, accepting friend requests, and opening links on social media, and felt motivated to share the learning with her peers.
Chairperson Kashmi Kumal appreciated the training, noting that it introduced new concepts and terminology related to digital safety, and suggested the use of audio-visual materials to make future sessions even more effective.
The training saw the participation of 30 adolescents, including 22 girls and 8 boys. Ms. Rupa Bhattarai Kafle, Social Mobilizer from Jagrati Child and Youth Concern Nepal, was also present during the program.
Through such initiatives, CZOP continues to advocate for child and adolescent safety, digital rights, and violence-free environments, contributing to safer digital spaces for girls and boys alike.
