Discussion Program on the Role of Media in Child Rights Protection and Promotion Held in Lalitpur

Lalitpur, April 20,2026 — A discussion program on “The Role of Media in Child Rights Protection and Promotion” was successfully conducted today in Pulchowk, Lalitpur, by the Children as Zones of Peace (CZOP) National Campaign.
The program brought together editors and media professionals from various media houses, creating a platform for dialogue on strengthening the role of the media in advocating for child rights.
Speaking at the program, Dr. Kundan Aryal, Head of the Central Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, highlighted the important responsibility of media professionals in protecting and promoting child rights. He emphasized the need for ethical and sensitive reporting on issues related to children.

Similarly, Mr. Prakash Silwal, Senior Correspondent at the National News Agency, stressed that media outlets should provide greater priority and dedicated space to issues concerning children. He noted that children’s voices and concerns must be consistently reflected in media coverage.
Participants also emphasized that children, who make up 33.84 percent of the population, remain underrepresented in mainstream media. The discussion concluded with a shared understanding on the need to amplify child-related issues and strengthen media advocacy in this area.
CZOP expressed its commitment to continuing collaboration with media professionals and stakeholders to ensure that child rights are effectively promoted and protected through responsible journalism.
