CZOP Delegation Meets Minister Sita Badi, Urges Priority for Child Rights

Kathmandu, April 9 — A delegation from the Children as Zones of Peace National Campaign (CZOP) met with newly appointed Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Sita Badi, on Friday and submitted a memorandum drawing attention to key child rights issues.

The 11-member team, led by CZOP Chairperson Tilottam Poudel, visited the ministry at Singha Durbar to congratulate Minister Badi and extend best wishes for her successful tenure. During the meeting, they handed over a memorandum outlining policy and programmatic recommendations.
The memorandum includes 34 key suggestions to be prioritized in the policies, programs, and budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84, focusing on the protection, promotion, and strengthening of child rights.
Key areas highlighted in the document include child-friendly policy formulation, ensuring dedicated child budgeting, ending child marriage, controlling child labor, managing street children, reforming child correction homes, implementing child protection standards in schools, and strengthening child clubs.
The delegation also emphasized the need for special programs targeting children with disabilities, those affected by conflict and violence, orphans, and children at risk.
Furthermore, the memorandum urges the government to make programs related to children’s health, education, nutrition, social security, online safety, and disaster management more effective.
During the meeting, Minister Badi expressed a positive stance toward collaboration on child rights issues. “It is necessary to move forward through cooperation on these matters, and we are positive,” participants quoted the minister as saying.
CZOP also reaffirmed its commitment to continue working in coordination and collaboration with the government to promote child rights.
